For a long time it seemed that Maria would drop the second set, but she came back strong, after being down 2-4 she won the second set with 7-5.

Maria and Jennifer Capriati have agreed to play a tennis match at the Office Depot Center (ODC) in Miami, Florida to benefit hurricane victims in the US, but a date hasn't been set.

Amelie Mauresmo has had to withdraw from the 2004 Swisscom Challenge before playing her first match. As the tournament's number one seed, she would have received a bye in the first round.
