July 31 / 2007 / 11:44 AM Maria Sharapova comes into the San Diego Classic this week looking for a fresh start to her seesaw season. After losing at the French Open and Wimbledon last year, she arrived in San Diego refreshed and aiming to make a major statement in the U.S. hardcourt season.
She did so in resounding fashion, beating Kim Clijsters in the final and then winning her second grand slam title at the U.S. Open by defeating Justine Henin in the final.
The 20-year-old is not completely down on her year, but she is not celebrating 2007 either.

July 05 / 2007 / 9:48 AM QUESTION Was that just sort of a career day from her and not a great one from you?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Not a great one in the first set for me. You know, didn't really have a rhythm. I don't know if it was the wind or a slow start. She got off to a fast start. You know, I just didn't feel really comfortable in the first set.
