Maria's road to the US Open

Maria will be back in action July 22nd for WTT for the Newport Beach Breakers when they host the Kansas City Explorers.  Maria will then make stops in Stanford, Los Angeles and Toronto before the US Open.

Maria's next Sony Ericsson WTA Tour appearance will be the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford which will begin on July 27th.  Stanford is a Premier $700K event played on hardcourts and this will be Maria's first appearance at this tournament..

Maria will then travel south to play the  LA Women's Tennis Championships presented by Herbalife in Los Angeles the following week and it is another Premier $700K event.  Maria has played here 4 times before and her best result was reaching the semis in 2006 and 2007.

After a break of a week, Maria will be playing the Rogers Cup in Toronto which begins on 17th August and that is a Premier $2M event.  Maria best result in 3 appearances here is reaching the 3rd round in 2004 and 2008.

Maria's next tournament will be the final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open in New York which will start on August 31st.  Maria has played this event 5 times before and her result was winning it in 2006.

In 2008 all Maria played was Montreal in the hardcourt season due to her shoulder injury and has a total of 120 points to defend in this period.
