WTA Championships: Groups Announced

Yesterday the two groups that will complete in round-robin play at the WTA Tour Championships were announched.


Maria is in the Black group together with recent No.1 Amelie Mauresmo, US Open champ Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva, who was the last player to qualify after a stellar week of play in Philadelphia.


World No.1 Lindsay Davenport will lead the Red Group, which also includes Roland Garros winner Anastasia Myskina, two-time Grand Slam finalist Elena Dementieva and 2001 Tour Championships winner Serena Williams.


Maria has never played Mauresmo before, is 0-2 with Kuznetsova and 1-2 with Zvonareva. Out of Maria's matches against the Russians she has only played one match indoors and that was against Zvonareva in Memphis and she lost in straight sets.



The tournament starts in 2 days (Wednesday night) but the schedule is not known yet.
