Russia's Maria Sharapova has confirmed she will not take part as expected in the Linz WTA tournament next week, tournament organizers said Thursday.

"I am very disappointed not to be able to play in the Generali Ladies Linz (tournament) but my shoulder injury is still not completely healed," Sharapova was quoted as saying in the organizers' statement.

"I will do anything to get fit again as quickly as possible," she also said, adding "I hope that I will be able to play again in Linz in the future."

The world number four said Sunday on her Internet site that she was pulling out of the tournament, due to begin on Monday, citing persistent shoulder pain, but later said "I will do everything in my power to play in Linz."

Sharapova also pulled out from this week's Zurich Open.

maria these injuries does noy have any affect on a sportsstar like u. u can become #1 again .we all yr fans are now eager to see u in that position again.just try and concentrate on grandslams so best of luck to u

don't think i'm pessimist or something because i really think that she's good and that she can be a legend if she wants to. but the fact remains that she lost - in a very good day, at her best, in a very good outfit, in good health, in perfect shoulder - to a young teenager.

Let's just support the decision of maria for not playing in Linz and give her time to rest. We must concerned the health and condition of maria not the tournament. The best way to do let us all pray that her shoulder's injury will be healed and good health for her. We will wait you maria for your comeback. Take care!

Hello everyone,
I know we all start thinking that maybe there is no shoulder injury, but we do not know this only maria does. So lets give her the benefit of the doubt. I honestly think that she is not match fit right now and that she has lost all her confidence in her serve, it is good for masha to take this time and try to find her serve, her game and her confidence, clearly we all know she doesn't loose to the 40th ranked players on a good day when she is at her best. so please lets support her and give her time.

Maria! You are the best tennis player! i can watch your matches day and night i.e aussie open,tokyo,us open ! all at night even when i have to go to skl in the morning!
