Sharapova reaches final at Generali Ladies

Maria Sharapova, unbeaten since August, reached the Generali Ladies final with a 7-5, 7-5 victory Saturday over Patty Schnyder of Switzerland.

The top-seeded Sharapova will play for the title Sunday against defending champion Nadia Petrova in an all-Russian final. Petrova, seeded second, defeated Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2.

Sharapova stretched her winning streak to 15 matches, with her last defeat coming to Elena Dementieva in Los Angeles this summer.

Sharapova and Petrova will each be playing in her seventh final of the season — Sharapova winning four times, Petrova five.

"I am so excited to play another final," said Sharapova, who has beaten Petrova in four of their five matches. "I am mentally a bit tired, so I was happy to win against Patty in two sets."

After an early break in the first, Sharapova went up 5-3 but missed five set points over the next two games, with the third-seeded Schnyder breaking serve. At 6-5, Sharapova faced another break point but clinched the first set on her sixth opportunity. In the second set, Sharapova broke at 5-5, then finished the match with her fourth ace.
