Maria Sharapova was upset by 81st-ranked Jamea Jackson 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals of the DFS Classic on Saturday, just the fourth loss in 37 matches on grass for the top-seeded Russian.

In her match against Jackson, Sharapova even received a code of conduct warning after her father, Yuri, gave her advice.

Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champion, lost twice on grass in 2003 and once last year.

"Jamea served well and took the lead early and that kind of set the tone for the match," Sharapova said. "I dug a hole from the beginning and couldn't find a way out."

Sharapova was disappointed, but said her main goal is to be ready for Wimbledon.

"I have to look ahead. I am going to London and will start preparing for Wimbledon," she said. "I will be working hard and looking forward to playing my favorite Grand Slam."

let me be the voice of reason here people. by the way, the ankle injury cant be used as an excuse anymore. that is not what cost her against Safina or this match, it was her forehand miscues. she even said herself that it was better. by the way, Maria did say that she wants to win in interviews, so i believe she needs to step away from signing deals in between tourneys and concentrate on tennis. modeling is in the off-season and doesnt affect anything. but i am not a fickle fan like many on here. let me give you a stat. maria has played 7 tourneys and has gotten at least to the semis 6 of those 7. whats wrong with that. she is consistent and you cant win them all. she is only 19 and can only get better and more mature. just like tiger Woods. everyone expects him to win every tourney. well, it just doesnt work that way and if he doesnt win he finishes in the top 10 like Maria does. consistency people! maybe her problem was winning Wimbledon at 17. now she is expected to win all the time. that is just not mentally and physically possible. its just not gonna happen. ok, maybe she took to long off between tourneys, but she will rebound. i will still support her and you all should too if you you really like her. remember, Maria Is Wimbledon! oh, and by the way lorena, we can all tell that your a williams sisters fan, so get lost!! we dont need you on this site! Go Maria!
